They rode on for several hours. Mostly quiet, listening for any disturbances in the surrounding trees. There were wild animals out here, but more importantly, there were people who traveled this road from all four realms. Some are friendly, some are not. It wouldn’t matter if they were royalty if they came across the wrong crowd. She could fight, and so could Lorys, but that was something she really didn’t want to have to do on this trip. She spent most of this time thinking about the previous night and how she had never felt that way about a simple kiss from anyone, even in the most passionate moments. Something about him drew her in, like she was under his spell. The little voice nagging in the back of her mind telling her that he can’t be trusted was getting quieter and quieter with each passing minute.

They were approaching a clearing and she could see the twinkling lamplight from shops and homes of Davos. Halyna sagged with relief. She hadn’t realized how tense she had been as the night approached and they were still in the woods.

“They probably won’t know who we are here, in Davos,” she said.

“They won’t know who I am, but I’m quite certain they’ll recognize their princess,” he replied.

“How do you figure? We aren’t riding under any banners, and I’m not dressed like a princess.” She was sure she didn’t smell like one either.

“Aside from the shimmering gold skin? You just look regal… flawless.”

Damn. She had forgotten about her new skin affliction. Flawless? He had mastered the art of flattery, but she knew better.

“You’re right, the skin will probably stand out. Far from perfect, though. I think I’ll look perfectly average amongst the women of Davos.”

He cocked an eyebrow at her, giving him a very mischievous expression. “We’ll see about that.”
